About the Book
In Seeking Ordinary Joy, DJ Murphy navigates the journey from heartache to happiness, tackling questions at once ordinary and cosmic, in poems, sometimes directly, sometimes spiritually, as in “Tell Me About Your Angel” — tell me about the angel who came / did she say if she’s returning for me / or was it the bluebird in your olive tree / by chance, did either mention my name? — always with imagination and warmth.
Peter Schireson | Author of six poetry collections, including Before the Sun.
DJ Murphy’s Seeking Ordinary Joy invites us to pause and see existence as it is —simple, fleeting, full of contrast. His words, like a Zen brushstroke, reveal the beauty in the mundane: a song, a dream, a cloud shaped like Ireland. Restlessness and doubt give way to peace, and in stillness, happiness appears.
James Zucco | Visual Artist
DJ Murphy is a collaborator and major contributor to the song catalog of the Lasses Rogers Band. His lyrical phrasing and mystical storytelling provide the inspiration for the music the band writes to wrap around the words he has painted on the page. The poetry in Seeking Ordinary Joy is everything we have come to expect from the honorary member of Lasses Rogers Band; beautiful, meaningful, and best of all, uniquely David.
Juliana Lasses & Brian Rogers | The Lasses Rogers Band
More than a collection of poems, Seeking Ordinary Joy is a story, one that traces the journey from restlessness and doubt, to healing and happiness.
